Dr Vinayak Patkar- Practical Utility of The Principle of Organon (Part 1)
Today He will be teaching us Practical Utility of The Principle of Organon. So we welcome Dr Vinayak Patkar.
So before we start as I do usually we pay a small tribute to our master.
See today we are going to learn what is, the practical application of Organon. See, these two words are very contradictory – practical utility of Organon; see, it means it is something theoretical and we are going to use it in practice. But actually if you see, Organon itself is a work compiled by our Master to his experiment, through his practical work only he has complied Organon to teach us how to practice homeopathy. See we normally tell to read Organon in colleges; all here now are senior homeopaths and I don’t need to say the importance of Organon to you. You all must be utilizing for so many years; but standing on this platform, as a teacher, it is my duty to emphasize on what is Organon.
See normally, in college days during the exams, we feel that Organon is a boring subject. So you just write anything in the paper, fill up the paper and you pass. So when we are talking about the practice, you can't do that with the patients. When the patient is sitting in front of you, he is the best examiner ever. You will never get an examiner like a patient in your college days also because they ask so many questions and basically apart from answering their questions, our prime duty is to solve their problem. They have come with a particular problem to us and they are suffering, and many times it happens that most of you all must have experienced that many patients come to us after going to the allopathic system of medicine or Auyrvedic system. They don’t get result and they are tired of taking medicines, tired of taking insulin for their diabetes or those who are having arthritis or there are some so called incurable diseases. Allopaths say that you have to take medicines as long as you are alive or this disease doesn’t have any cure you take only symptomatic treatment. So, such patients come to us. So it is our first duty to relieve that patient of his complaint.
As we know what the first aphorism says, physician’s high and only mission – see he has never mentioned that you answer the patient or satisfy the patient’s questions and in the footnote to aphorism number one, in fact he has mentioned that rather than giving all these empty speculations or big explanations to the patients, in so called learned words, what is your prime duty – to cure the sick. To restore his health from disease and that throughout the Organon all around the book he has given all this knowledge, all these hints, signs whatever you say for us to follow them, to follow his footsteps.
So I would say that rather than learning the practical utility of Organon, what we would learn are the dynamics, the dynamics of homeopathy because even now at this stage we think many times that how the medicine acts, we are also astonished. Some patients, we take the case, we give the medicine and seeing the results, even after so many years of practice, we are astonished that how this one pill has cured the patient homeopathic pill – it comes out in front of the patient from our mouths and I have expressed this many times to my patients even I am wondering how you got cured. Because it is not me who has cured you, it is my homeopathy that has cured you.
But, after seeing so many patients for so many years, still we are in that situation how one pill can cure a patient – generally we give one pill only right, one dose of one medicine in a pill form. How one pill can cure a patient? So still we are in the process of learning and learning because it is a dynamic process. See it is moving it is not static as we saw the video that allopathic medicines continuously keep on changing. There are first generation antibiotics and second generation antibiotics and now they have found out antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria so they are working on it but we have firm, strong base and for more than 200 years, medicines are acting in the same way, same fashion, giving same symptoms.
See, around 1999 when homeopathy completed 200 years, I was an intern at that time; they had conducted a proving that time re-proving of Belladonna to see whether Hahnemann’s proving of Belladonna and now, is there any difference and you know there was not a single difference found and in fact we could dig out lesser symptoms as compared to Dr. Hahnemann but whatever symptoms they had collected from the provers, all were exactly like what Dr. Hahnemann had detailed in his literature.
See it is so fixed a principle. And fixed means it is not that the disease it fits, but they are all hard concrete and basic principles which can never be changed. Normally there is always discussions and patients always keep on asking if there is any research going on in homeopathy. They want to know like in allopathy, there are so many big institutes but research means what? Not that something which you have already used or you are already using to prove that it is wrong and go to something new. Is that research? It is proving that a few years back you were a fool and now you have become a little smarter. Because now we have third generation antibiotics, we were using second generation antibiotics till now.
Is that a wise thing? Now if you see Dr. Hahnemann’s literature, how he has condemned all these things. Research means what now when Dr. Hahnemann was there, there were only 99-100 remedies in his hand but his rate of cure was 100%. But now we have more than 3000 remedies in homeopathy the rate of success has increased but not to the level of 100%. But many people are working together and they are giving good results in many diseases which are not cured by allopathy or the patients are suffering since a long time. So this is research that we are pouring in new remedies, new concepts, new ways of finding out remedies, we are coming together – this is research but we fall short in giving this thing to the world. We feel that homeopathy is secondary because allopathic doctors are having so many big institutes for research you don’t see that they are wasting their money.
What they are doing? Over a period of time, after 15 years they will say no, this is not right. 15 years back what we had found out is not right. Can anyone say that 200 years back Dr. Hahnemann had written the Organon of medicine which is wrong? Till date, nobody can prove that it is wrong because it is based on hard facts, hard principles, proven, re-proven, many people have tested it and now recently we had come across
an article in the newspaper about the IIT people finding out some nanoparticles in homeopathic medicines in the 30 potency, see now they have so much of advanced technology that they could find this out but Dr. Hahnemann had said this 200 years back. Means we are 200 years ahead of this system of medicine. What we should do is, we need to understand what Dr. Hahnemann wanted to convey to us to practice homeopathy. So we will try to understand whatever I have understood, I will try to share with you my experiences regarding this matter.
See, we are here basically to treat the sick; our main concern is to treat the sick and no other aim as a homeopath, right? So first we should know what we are treating. When we say I'm treating the sick, what is the meaning of sick? See, from birth to death, these are our provings – from the birth of a human being till he is alive a doctor or a physician comes into picture. In that process, a person is either healthy or diseased. There are some congenital diseases, there are some acquired diseases. So in the whole of this process, there is a part where the disease invades the human being. When a person becomes diseased, when he needs medical help, when he needs homeopathic help, how to determine what is the cause that is disturbing the system which is flowing smoothly from health to disease?
So we need to study this because when you know the cause, then only you can treat it like the allopathic doctors what they say is that I want to get the diagnosis of the patient, whether he has got pneumonia, whether he has got bronchitis, he has got COPD, he has got fibrosis then only I can treat. So go and do all the investigations. But as a homeopath, you don't do that. When the patient comes to us first, what is our first duty? From our perspective, we try to find out the cause of the disease. See we think for a long time, one hour, two hours that why this person has fallen sick? See our thinking is different as homeopaths. That ‘why’ has got so many things behind it. Not only bacteria. We don’t try to find out the bacteria. This is the last thing a homeopath can do that to try to find out the bacteria by doing a blood culture or a pus culture to rule out why this person is falling sick? What is the bacteria? You have medicines for bacteria? We don’t treat bacteria.
So what we treat exactly, what is the cause which we treat? See, this is very interesting to know which Dr. Hahnemann had taught us. Since early human life, man has been sent to the adverse condition of the earth in the most helpless manner but due to the kindness of god, man only possesses the most precious quality of life – the mind, which made the man superior from other animals. The mind can be used for creation, for protection and for the higher purpose of our existence and this divine power helped the mankind to think about the protection from disease.
See, when we are born, human beings, new born babies of human beings doesn’t know how to walk, doesn’t know how to talk but if you see a new born of an animal; a calf within few minutes starts standing within few minutes it starts suckling the milk. If you see a turtle, it has been provided by nature with a hard core to protect it from all the environmental insults. Do we have that? A new born baby doesn’t even have hair. So we are so much helpless, but nature has given a beautiful thing that is the mind. And that mind can start thinking about the protection from disease.
So since the evolution of human civilization, search for remedial agents against the disease began. The creator also made some various processes to overcome the disease condition in the human body but those efforts are very limited and dangerous also.
See, it has been given in Organon, if some foreign particle goes in the body, how will body will start throwing it out? It would start suppuration that is the common process. Suppose it is in the skin or under the nail, we get nail bed infection or some pus formation is there, that pus is oozed, discharged and through that discharge, the foreign body is thrown out. This is the nature’s way of cure, so beautiful and nice without any medication.
But the same thing happens in the eye, is it affordable? That eye will suppurate, rupture, pus formation; we will lose our eyesight! So what he is saying is that there are natural ways but they are very limited and dangerous. Especially the old school medicine thought that it will be very intelligent work to follow the nature and the suffering of mankind only became more prolonged. Because they used to rely on all these things ki, if person is vomiting, give him more purgatives, he will throw out the poison. But person is getting weaker and weaker day by day. He is losing his vital fluids. So they made the suffering more prolonged.
To remove the disease the remedial agent by old school brought a more severe another form of disease only and in other cases, the total vitality of the life principle was lost, damaged so that man became diseased artificially. To overcome the disease, the nature’s ways are too dangerous to follow because it is in very crude form and haphazard manner without any intention to smooth recovery; this is very simple.
It is nature’s earnest effort to save mankind without knowing the intensity, depth, virulence of every individual disease. In few cases, cure may happen but not in very smooth way and those diseases can be cured radically by the rational art of healing without any deleterious effect on life. But the old school never realized it; they thought that after expulsion of the disease product from the body through various discharges, a disease can be cured and that’s why since that time till today, they are inventing the varieties of diuretics and purgatives and emetics. But a sensitive physician’s mind never allows him to depend on the nature. This is what he has mentioned in the Medicine of Experience.
This is said to be the forerunner of Organon of Medicine. See this can't be the forerunner of Organon of medicine. It is taught in the colleges but this is the thought Dr. Hahnemann had put and he expanded on that and when he realized that this is the nature’s way, this is the way of….. that time medical field to cure the patient. Then what is the rational way of curing the patient?
See, we can't depend on nature for every disease to be cured. We can't rely on so called physicians during that time to cure the patient because they were doing more harm, then what is the rational art? If this is not right, this is not right, then tell me what is right, that was his thought.
See now we are following him so we are supposed to learn whatever he says, we are supposed to follow. As a follower of Hahnemannian system of medicine we need to understand the concept of disease without which it is not possible to help the sick. Let us see what he says disease.
See what we are going to learn today is absolutely and exactly from Organon because there is no other way to learn apart from Organon. See in aphorism number 11, what he says – when a person falls ill, it is only this spiritual, self acting, automatic vital force everywhere present in his organism that is primarily deranged by the dynamic influence upon the morbific agent inimical to life. It is only the vital force deranged to such an abnormal state that can furnish the organism with its disagreeable sensation and incline it to the irregular processes which we call disease. So simply he has mentioned what is disease.
For, as a power invisible in itself – see the power invisible in itself, there is some power but which is invisible and only cognizable by it's effects on the organism. Like we know this is a power only known through this tube light, only when the tube light is lightened, otherwise the tube light see here, there is no power, you see power in this tube light. So this is invisible power.
Its morbid derangement only makes itself known by the manifestation of disease in the sensation and functions of those parts of the organism exposed to the senses of the observer and physician, that is by morbid symptoms and in no other way can it make itself known. Means how to perceive the disease? How it starts he has mentioned but how to perceive is through the altered sensations and functions of the parts of the organism exposed to the senses of the physician. See here we are also responsible. Like when we see a person we don’t know what is the disease, then the patient starts suffering more and more because we start thinking with our imagination in the wrong directions. Conceiving the wrong concept of the disease we start treating the patient; patient suffers.
Now this has been extracted from Dr. Kent’s literature. What he is saying? There is nothing wonderful than the coordination of man’s economy, his will and understanding and his movements. This coordination is carried out by the life substance – this concept has been introduced by Dr. Kent – of Life Substance to make it in a simplified version.
See during that time homeopathy was considered as like a medicine which is not existing only because when Dr. Hahnemann started curing the patients, the so called physicians during that time who were established, they started using all their powers against homeopathy. Because homeopathy was giving fantastic results. So it was a need that people should understand, new comers, new followers of homeopathy who want to get converted to homeopathy as a patient and as a physician they should understand in simplified version. See this itself is very simple but Dr. Kent has made it still simpler for us to understand at the basic level. So he has introduced the concept of life substance.
In aphorism 10, what Dr. Hahnemann says – the material organism without the vital force is capable of no sensation, no function, no self-preservation. It derives all sensations and performs all the functions of life solely by the means of the immaterial being, the vital principle which animates the material organism in health or in disease.
Here we see Dr. Kent has beautifully described the concept of vital principle through the understanding of simple substances. Simple substance is a fundamental principle of life. In the universe everything is founded on simple substance. To understand the simple substance we should know the basic of evolution of structure of the universe.
See those who are Marathi they may be knowing; there is a saying “Je je pindi dete brhmandi” means whatever is there in the smallest unit of the world, same thing will be reflected all over the universe.
So when we want to study everything about a human being who is a beautiful creation of God, we should know the basic thing how the life has started and how the functioning is there. See if you want to, normally in anatomy also we are first shown a slide of a cell. Physiology also we are taught the basic cell functioning. Then only we can understand the disturbance at a higher level in different different diseases. So when we understand the basic unit of life then you can apply it in different parts of the human being.
So he has explained it. See as a unit when we study there is a common factor which holds the globe in the universe around the center that is the sun; in the cytoplasmic structure, the nucleus. Like the nucleus is there, around that so many different different parts of the cells are there, different units of the cell are there – mitochondrion is there, some other particles are there. Then what is the energy, what is this energy which holds this center around which all these things are moving? What is that thing which holds the globe moving around the sun in a particular manner?
See we know there is a typical cycle; 28 days cycle for a month, 365 days for a year and we can predict after 500 years when is the day and what is the time for an eclipse because we know that there is a continuous pattern, repetitive pattern followed. So when we know that pattern….. See, in human beings also, same things are there. If you see in human beings, we have a sleep pattern, which if you disturb you are sick. Like in females there is menstrual cycle, what is a cycle? It starts from one end and ends at the other end. Therefore we call it a cycle and again it repeats the same thing. When this cycle is disturbed, patient comes to us for complaint of irregular periods. Then we call it irregular, right? We ask what is the cycle and the patient says 30 to 60 days and sometimes 90 days. Then we say that it is an irregular cycle means there is a disturbance, the cycle has broken, the repetitiveness has broken. See about this he has mentioned in the footnote to aphorism 11.
See this is a presentation like this is a model of a cell and a model of the universe. So much similarity is there. This is the sun which is holding all the globes in a particular orbits. This is a nucleus. See the cell will never expand out of proportion. When it expands out of proportion? What we call it? Cancer. It will never divide out of proportion when in a particular organ for a particular function only 5 cells are required, body will not replicate to 50 cells. When it goes to 50 cells, we say there is a tumor.
Similarly this also; the earth and the globes are moving in a particular way. Have you never noticed that there is a disturbance in this? See, because this is a dynamic thing; always maintained. This you can't see a connection, there is no wire holding sun and these globes together. These orbits are conceptual orbits. We have designed these orbits with the help of the calculation; mathematical calculations, and they are moving in the same direction. Likewise here also. The nucleus is holding all the structures in a particular manner. When they get disturbed, then we say there is a disease. But the thing is what is that which disturbs? This is a cellular study. You can see this under the microscope but what homeopathic concept says, homeopathic philosophy says that there is something which you cannot see under the microscope and that is disease.
So we have to study……see this we just take for the concept of understanding because this is a broad thing so we can easily understand. This is the smallest unit but when we compare both the things, they are the same. But there is a ……we are going to deal with this part of the nature; human cells, human beings.
So when we know that there is a disturbance here, then how that disturbance is triggered? What is that which triggers this disturbance? It is this – man is made up of spirit, soul and body. The body expresses what the soul tells it to do. Lowest medium, World-conscious. As we say from more important to less important, within outwards. So this is the most outward expression of nature; the body. Body is controlled by the soul. And this is World-conscious. Body gets affected by everything; meteoric, telluric whatever effects you say the body gets affected by all these things. Then there is a soul which comprises of our will, intellect and emotions. Proceeding from our senses, prime factor; self-conscious. There are so many things which originate from this.
Now what we deal with, maximum of them, they start with this level. And there is the spirit. That part which communicates with God, noblest part – God conscious. See this concept you will find only in homeopathy. Other systems they only deal with this outer part. They are not bothered. Therefore when a person says I'm sick, what they ask – tell me the symptoms; where is the pain, where is the swelling? Take this medicine. For this pain take this pain killer. But that will affect only this outer part. But this is the least important part of the whole system but it is considered as most important because it is a functional part.
See if there is no body we are not seen right? Without the body there is no existence. When we say I'm the soul but how that soul is expressed it's only through the body right only through the material body. And when we treat a patient, for the patient the symptoms are important. If you tell the patient that I'm treating your soul, I'm treating your spirit he will kick you – I'm getting pain in my piles and you are treating my soul, treat my piles. But this should be at the back of my mind that why he has got piles, why he has got arthritis, why he has got acute tonsillitis; what is the reason? When we know that reason, without telling all these things to the patient, you treat the patient in harmonious and judicial way.
Therefore there is a need to learn all these things. See this is all concepts, this you can't explain to the patient. But unless you know all these things, you can't treat the patient. Ans our prime aim is to treat the patient.
Now, when there is a disturbances at these levels, how it is expressed? We will see in the course of time that the change in the form of a cell is a result first of disorder that the derangement of the immaterial vital principle is a very beginning of the disorder and that with this beginning there are changes in sensation by which the man may know this beginning which occurs long before there is any visible change in the material substance of the body.
So as a homeopath, we can treat the patient before he actually falls sick when we know that there is some disorder. What is that disorder? You have to identify the disorder before it comes to the physical level….. visible changes. See visible changes are too far off. There are some patients if we treat wrongly, they can lead to some deadly disease with a wrong medication because we know that our homeopathic medication; see when we say we cure at the same time we can suppress also. There are so many patients knowingly or unknowingly suppressed with wrong medication of homeopathy.
Basically there is a big misunderstanding in the patients and amongst the doctors also that homeopathy is very safe medicine with no side effects. But you know safe in a way that if you take an antibiotic then you start getting blisters or physical reactions that at least will disappear within a span of 15 days or a month but when we say we can cure cold to cancer, anything with homeopathy, see the power of penetration of homeopathic medicine.
See there are worse homeopathic suppressions, worse than any allopathic medicine. If you give it in the wrong way….. see the person will come and blame you that this has happened because of your medicine but we know and we should know rather that why this has happened. Because we are not considering the whole being when we treat see there is a concept of organ remedies, specific remedies; where these concepts have come from?
See there are people who are using as we have seen that there are some incidental cures because accidentally those medicines were homeopathic to that particular case so they are cured. They are cured only because they were homeopathic not intentionally but accidentally. But anyhow the patient was cured with homeopathic medicine. But when we give homeopathic medicine with wrong notions, wrong concepts….. see medicines are same right if you take from the same chest of medicine, medicines are going to be the same; what differs? The principle on which you apply that medicine to the patient. That is the beauty of homeopathy.
See if I give you the whole chest of medicines, 500 medicines, see all these medicines are used for treating chest infection; is it right? Will we be able to treat the patient? Out of these medicines I need only one pill to cure the patient. So to come to that precise level, you need to be very precise in understanding the patient. You can't be very crude. See that is the crude way crude homeopathy. It bites our conscious when we treat patients in such a way that I have treated wrongly this is not my homeopathic way. I am doing something wrong. Because that can take the patient to something more grave than for which he had come to get treatment from me. So this is very important.
The employment of instrument of precision will enable us to see the finest disease results, which are the outcomes or results of these immaterial, the virus for instance, the very finest form of animal or vegetable life; but the cause of the disease is a million times subtle than this and cannot be seen by human eye. This we should bear in mind. Dr. Hahnemann has always said these thing; what is the cause of the disease you cannot see with human eye. It is million times subtle than the thing which you can see.
The finest visible objects are but the results of things still finer so that the cause rests within. When all the functions are carried in a perfectly orderly way you have no consciousness of your body, which means that you are in freedom.
Suppose we are moving normally, in a day we breathe 15 to 20 times in a minute. But those who are asthmatic you know, they are so labored breathing, they can really feel I'm breathing so heavily, I'm breathing. Breathing so heavily you forget. I am breathing. We don't realise. We take in and take out. But they are breathing with efforts. So when you are conscious of your normal day to day functions, that is the origin of the first symptom. Not the disease, it is the symptom of the disease. So that ease you know, ease has gone. See what we say; Dis ease. That ease has gone. And then you become diseased.
When not in freedom the individual says, I feel; this is the disease expressed; I feel. It is this disturbance of an invisible character which comes from the cause and appears by changes in the activities of the body, changes in sensations, changes in functions. To establish the freedom should be the aim of the physician. See, we should know what is our aim. To establish the freedom, that I feel sensation should go. I am normal, I don't feel. This is establishing the freedom.
If a physician's work does not result from placing his patients in freedom he cannot heal the sick, for healing the sick is placing the patient in freedom giving him absolute physical freedom. If the physician employs a dose of Morphine to give relief from the pain; can we call it freedom?
See how nicely he has said. A patient who is suffering his last; in last stages of incurable or last stages diseases not incurable last stage of any disease, he is getting pain. See, by giving painkillers what we do? We are not relieving him. We are putting him in more trouble. After the effect of painkiller goes, he will start getting double the pain. Pain is a part plus he will start suffering from within because you are suppressing the expressions of vital force. Vital force is trying to give you some hints; at this stage also there is something which you can do for me. But we are ignoring. Our main concern; he is getting pain, give him pain killer. Morphine is a highest dose of painkiller. Numbness. You'll not feel the pain. Is it? Then why you could not treat him so that he won’t raise at this level. If you have Morphine to relieve the pain of the last stages, then why the patient comes to this stage. You can treat him before he could come to this stage of taking Morphine. That is not done. Only when patient is suffering to his last stage, give him Morphine.
See, this is what Dr. Hahnemann wants to explain. With the help of this he has explained this dynamic power. Our earth by virtue of hidden invisible energy carries the moon around her in 28 days and several hours and the moon alternately in definite fixed hours raises our Northern seas to flood tide and again correspondingly lowers them to ebb.
Apparently this takes place not through material agencies, not through mechanical contrivances, as are used for products of human labor. So we see numerous other events about us as a result of action of one substance on another substance without being able to recognize a sensible connection between cause and effect.
This is same thing is seen about a human body. Cause and the effect. Cause is there, you see the effect. But you cannot make a connection. This is our job to make a connection between cause and the effect. then you will be able to read the patient as a whole picture, not only the effect. It is then so utterly impossible for our age celebrated thinkers to think of dynamic energy as something non- corporeal since we see daily phenomenon which cannot be explained by any other manner?
If one looks upon something nauseous and becomes inclined to vomit. Did a material emetic come to his stomach which compels him to this anti peristaltic movement. We are moving on the road, the garbage van goes, we start getting nausea. Did that garbage fall on you? It had just passed. That is the dynamic effect. Some people actually vomit with that strong smell. Can you have a direct connection? This is called dynamic effect. And if one raises his arm, does it occur through a material visible instrument; a liver. Is it not solely the conceptual dynamic energy of his will which raises it?
See, when we say simple substance we should know what does it mean. See, our body has got 2 components; physical and dynamic. What we are going to deal to learn the concept is the dynamic concept. Dynamic concept which controls the body. It is made of emotions and intellect. See, to start with, if we see what are the basic emotions of the human race? Anger, love, hatred and foremost love for self. Love for…. See why everybody is doing all his activities to live? To survive. That is the basic instinct. See, some people commit suicide because they have lost that basic instinct. They have lost that basic instinct. They have lost the feelings, the basic feelings of life.
When we become diseased what we are doing? See, when we take a particular case; fully homeopathic case, we try to find out what is the cause. We always ask the patient. Did you have any tension or stress before this thing could start? Do you remember any incidence which has triggered this event? Many times we get some or the other from the patient, that I had a fight with my boss, that somebody cheated me in my office, I was duped by my somebody. Some or the other emotional cause you can find out. We find. See we are behind that only. When a patient comes to us, we are behind that to find out what is the cause at this level; emotional level. Because what is the thing you know, emotions and intellect, those two things they are like trying to cover up each other.
Suppose; simple thing I'll tell you. A child is there; he wants to pass urine. A small baby. Will he wait to search for toilet? He'll pass there and there. If he is hungry, he'll not wait for break. Now 1 to 2 you have a lunch break. He will not wait for 1 to 2 lunch break. He'll start crying then and there. If he wants this laptop, he wants. If you don't give him, he will start crying. If I want this laptop, I won’t be able to snatch it. I am grown up. See, what do you mean by grown up? I have covered my emotions with my intellect. I am putting a front. See, whatever I am to suit to the circumstances, to suit to the surroundings to live in this environment, I am trying to cover up to make such an extent that I'll live in this environment comfortably.
In this bargain, there are some basic things which are in me which are inborn, which are my qualities, which is my disposition. State of disposition. Where it is given? Aphorism 211, 212. State of disposition. Everybody has got the state of disposition. So that state of disposition reflects through the surroundings and it is covered up with your emotions with you intellect so that your basic emotions are not erupted out in the wrong direction.
If an adult want to pass urine he will hold it as long as he can. But he will not stand up in between the meeting and say I want to go. But a child can’t do that because in a child that thing covering up of emotions is not developed. If that is there in a child; what we call that child? Precocious. We take it as a symptom because it is not the child who is supposed to do that. If an adult is doing such thing, what we call him? Childish. See, how the circumstances have changed. The situation is same but our perception is changed. Because the person who is not supposed to do something at a particular time, he started doing that. then we perceive.
Suppose the patient is sitting in front of you and narrating something serious, he starts laughing; laughingly he says something. We take it as a symptom. Laughing is a disease? Tell me. It is not a disease. It is a natural expression. Or suppose some female is narrating some very minor incidence in her life and she starts weeping. We take it as a symptom. Why? Because her reaction to the situation is out of proportion. She is not supposed to cry while narrating such a small thing. But she is crying. So for us, it is a symptom. Because she should not cover her emotions because they were so overwhelming, over powered that even her intellect wouldn’t stop it. Then when they become conscious of the situation; I’m sitting in front of doctor, video is there, doctor is taking video. Then they become conscious, they become stiff, they wipe their eyes and they say, doctor I'm sorry. Means that time their intellect has taken over them. But that moment everything was flooded. This is what we call the simplicity of human nature. The basic emotions.
Our functioning is on this basic substance. What Dr. Kent means basic substance, simple substance is this. The very simpler form of human life. When there is alteration in these simpler forms that leads to disease. Because see in homeopathic literature if you see any Materia Medica even the simple simple, non, very less proved, less used remedy, you will find one or the other mental symptom given. At least one symptom you will find if it is not clearly mentioned in the heading under mentals in the Materia Medica books, with some physical symptoms you'll find. Irritability with headache. Feeling depressed with back pain. See, with back pain, why he should feel depressed? There is some connection. So each and every person.
See, what is Materia Medica? Materia Medica is a full reflection of all human beings in the world all; whatever human natures are there. homeopathy has collected all these natures and written down their biographies in the form of Materia Medica. What is our job? Just pick up these biographies, try to find of a person who is matching. See we have that concept about different personification of Materia Medica. Normally it is said, Hitler is a Drosera patient. If Drosera was given to Hitler, this 2nd world war could've been avoided. Because whatever symptoms are there in Materia Medica of Drosera, you find everything is Hitler's life. Suspiciousness, that he is tormented, he is persecuted. You find all things in Hitler.
So every Materia Medica drug is a reflection of every individual human nature in simpler form. As the disease progresses they start becoming complex. When a patient comes to us, he is always in a diseased state. So whatever front he puts to us in the form of history, it is all in the complex form. So it is our job to remove each and everything, make it in a simpler form to understand it and then again make it a complex form of it to prescribe for him. Because Materia Medica you find all these things in a complex form. Simple simple things are not there in Materia Medica. It is very deep meaning in small. If you see Boger’s Materia Medica, small small remedies are there. Even big big polychrest are mentioned in one and half two pages. Small small literature. Why? Because in one word he has compacted so many deep things and he has given markings; 3 marks, 2 marks. So we should understand that. This is simplicity.
See, there is a complexity, break it into simplicity to understand and that simplicity is not going to help you to prescribe for the patient it will help you to understand the person. But our job doesn’t end there. We have something else to do more than that to prescribe for the patient. Then try to make it in a form of a proper flow, proper direction from the beginning to the end. Beginning of the disease till he is sitting in front of you. Try to make it in a particular flow and then prescribe. So for that we should know the simple simple forms of life, simple simple emotions.
See, if we know these things then you can release the complexity. Direct sitting in front of complexity, you will become complex, you will become confused. You will never able to prescribe. Because when a patient comes to us we get easily distracted. If a patient of pneumonia comes to us, we try to see the X-ray, we see WBC count. 25,000 count means he is going to be toxic now. What should I do? You forget it. Count is 25,000 but why count is 25,000. What is the disease that you try to find out?
See, I'll tell you one simple case. Many years back there was a small baby who came to me. Around 3-4 years old. He was coughing coughing for 3 days. There was no relief. Then he developed fever; high fever. His parents got panicky. They removed X-ray, they removed blood count. And he was found with very high count that time plus right lobe pneumonia. So they were panicked. But they knew that Homeopathy will help my child because all these years they were taking homeopathy and he was relieved everytime. So they again came to us that doctor we removed his X-ray and this is the finding. Now what to do. Shall I admit him? I said wait, we'll see what is the problem. I asked him everything.
In a child's life, his world is his house only or his little friends around. So what is the thing which is; which is disturbing him. Can you tell me something recently happening which disturbed him? His father said, my father, means the grandfather of that child he was with me for 5-6 months. From the native place he had come to us. This child used to mingle very nicely with his grandfather. He got very attached to grandfather. He was very loving to grandfather and my father had to go back to his place after staying with me for 5 to 6 months. After 3-4 days of my father went, child has developed these things. And that child used to see at grandfather's photo and he used to become sad.
See, if you tell these things to Allopathic doctors will laugh at you. Can a child's grandfather going away cause pneumonia to the child? But for us for me that X-ray was of no use. That blood count of was no use. For me, I was so happy when the father said that his grandfather left and the child fell sick. I was so happy I could find out the cause of the disease. Now I can think in that direction. So I took all the history, the generals, particulars, everything we took. See, when you know that there is something really disturbing then we should take whole case. You can’t prescribe on one symptom.
The whole picture matched to Calcarea Phos. So I gave him one dose of Calcarea Phos and imagine, on third day the X-ray was clear. Next day morning fever went away. Third day the X-ray was clear. Child was hale and hearty; eating, playing again normally. That emotional disturbance also went away. See, this is dynamic.
This case I always remember because in a child; see how he is affected with such a small thing. For us, we know my father is going to go away after 5-6 months to his native place it’s okay. But for a child it was such a big impact on his life that my beloved grandfather is leaving. And he fell sick. So this is dynamic.
See, what Dr. Kent says, 'We must dwell upon what it is in the human being that must be changed in order to restore the man from sickness to health.' not his pneumonia, not his arthritis. There is something in the human being that must be changed. What is that? 'We must meditate long upon what it is in the remedies or drugs that constitutes the healing power or principle not the physical symptoms which are common. Not the pain of arthritis aggravation from first movement relieved by continued movement. This is seen in arthritis patients. It is not Rhus Tox because this is a common symptom. But when you take whole case, you find all the Rhus Tox symptoms then these symptoms also should match with the patient. Not that if this symptom is there, think of Rhus Tox. Patient is Rhus Tox, then automatically this will fall into that because these are small corners of a picture. If whole picture matches, then everything will match.
If we take whole picture of this classroom people sitting here then automatically the back bencher's are going to come. What we need to do is, fulfill the first bench. Fill the first benches properly. Automatically everything will line up.
So what he says, 'we must dwell upon what it is in the human being that must be changed.' so long as one thinks man is sick because his organs are not doing proper work, he cannot construct a treatment that accords with the Organon. So long as one regards the results as causes he will take the symptom accordingly and work with repertory in such a manner and although his results may satisfy himself yet they can never be compared with the results obtained from thinking that sick organs are but the results of the disordered state of man himself who is composed of mind and physical being and last of organs and extremities.'
See, he has given a proper order. Man, mind, physical being and last organs and extremities. See, when we say we don't want to treat the disease by name that is also wrong to some extent. Right. Because we don't treat the disease. But we should know what is a disease.
See, what Dr. Kent says, 'Traditional nosology may be useful as long as we have a public sphere to maintain but it is useless in homeopathic art of healing.' see, you should know because in aphorism 153 he has mentioned that there are PQRS symptoms what we take for prescribing. Along with that there are common symptoms of the disease. Headache, nausea, loss of appetite, malaise, body pain. These are common symptoms. But these are important because we need to differentiate. Unless we know what is common, you don't know what is characteristic. Everything cannot be characteristic. Everything cannot be common. So like there are bad people, therefore there are good people. So that differentiation; it is a relative term. As we saw, that in some patient’s one symptom is more important, in another patient it may not be that much important because it is a relative term. For everybody one is sin and one person feels it is not a sin because it is relativity. So that concept should be there. What is common and what is characteristic.
'It must be clearly settled what it is in the man that is first and what is last. What is the highest, what is the lowest. What is the innermost and what is the outermost. Before we can perceive what are causes and what are ultimates.' this we should know. What are the causes and what are the ultimates.
See aphorism number 12. Very important.
It is the morbidly affected vital energy alone that produces diseases, so that the morbid phenomena perceptible to our senses express at the same time all the internal change, that is to say, the whole morbid derangement of the internal dynamics, in a word they reveal the whole disease, also, the disappearance under treatment of all the morbid phenomena and of all the morbid alterations that differ from the healthy vital operations, certainly affects and necessarily implies the restoration of the integrity of the vital force and, therefore, the recovered health of the whole organism.
See, this is the footnote to aphorism number 12. This is common question you know. Everybody feels this thing that how the disease is starting. Why? How? Where? So what he is telling, 'How the vital force causes the organism to display morbid phenomenon, that is, how it produces disease, it would be of no practical utility to the physician to know and will forever remain concealed from him only what it is necessary for him to know of the disease and what is fully sufficient for enabling him to cure it has the Lord of life revealed to his senses.'
So henceforth we should not waste our time on thinking. What is our duty? That the Lord of life has revealed to our senses what is curable, what is incurable, what is to be treated; that is our job. As he has said in the footnote to aphorism number 1; Empty speculations, don’t fall into empty speculations. See, patient comes and start asking us, what is the name of my disease, have done so much reports, CT scan, MRI, blood reports, this that everything I have done. Now tell me what am I suffering from. We start thinking, what I should tell to the patient.
See, ideally you should not tell anything to such patients because that is not my job. My job is just to treat you. I am not interested in all these things to know and to explain you. It is wastage of my time, energy. And how it is going to help you? Tell me. If a patient has come, you open the book and show him see, this is your disease, you are suffering with this so much reports are done. Patients are happy because you have spent so much money. When they spend money they are happy. But if you give them one pill, they say, ek pill se kya hone wala hai. (English translation : What effect will this one pill will have on me?) I have eaten so many medicines. Mere ghar mein dawai ki duakn lagi hain. (English translation : My house has become like a medical store). This is a common word people use. And we give one dram bottle and half dram bottle and one pudi. (English translation : And we give one drachm or half drachm bottle and a single dose.). Ek pudi se kya hone wala hain. (English translation : What effect will this one dose will have on me?) Then when they know, they see the result, what they say you know, doctor wo jaadu ki pudi hai. (English translation : After experiencing the effect of that single dose they say, doctor that powder was magical). This is a common word used, jaadu ki pudi. (English translation : Magical powder) So this is the thing you know. Don’t waste your time in all these things to explaining the patient. Rather use that time to understand the patient.
See, in physiology we are taught in first year that there is a state called Homeostasis. Homeostasis means what? All the functions and sensations of a cell are maintained in particular fashion, in a particular order with the help of all the participants in the cells acting in coordination. If that coordination breaks, the Homeostasis is broken. The equilibrium goes. Homeostasis means it is equilibrium. So similarly, when we see this Homeostasis, how it happens? We cannot see that one cell is sending message to another cell; don't move. One cell is sending message to another cell; start moving. We can’t see that even under the microscope. So that process is been imbibed. It is an inborn process.
Likewise, when a human being is born; our growth. See, have you seen ever a flower blooming? Have you see when the flower blooms. Nobody knows when the flower blooms. It’s the petal starts opening, opening, opening. This is a state of blooming or this is the state of blooming nobody knows. If you put a camera also in front of a flower, you won’t be able to pinpoint, this is the movement when the flower is bloomed. See, the life substance is like that. It is continuously moving in a proper direction, in a particular flow harmoniously, smoothly. This is done by that energy. What we for human beings in homeopathy call vital energy. This energy you cannot see. See, even if you cut the flower and keep in the vase, it blooms. So where is that energy is coming from? It is within. It is within. There is a life in that. So that life helps the flower to bloom.
See, what Dr. Kent says, that the simple substance is a unit of oneness of the universe. Means all these processes if you study with open mind, you can connect, you can feel the similarity. Not similarity the same, same energy running all around through and that energy is expressed in different ways. And that different ways, that is the area where we study homeopathy, different individual. We call homeopathy is a science of individualization. So at each level, different things are…. One thing is expressed in different levels. When you want to know the different different expressions, first you should know where it is originating from that the one, one unit. When we say one unit means one cell, one person, one human nature, one human being. Then only you'll be able to understand.
See, human beings are normally said to be very quiet, docile animals. They don't eat other animals. They are not man eaters. So when the person becomes a man eater, we are scared of him because he has lost the integrity of human life. What has been allocated to human life, he has lost. So that oneness has gone. He has lost his basic emotions. That is the origin of disease. See, this we've seen how the cell divides; in the presentation.
See, even Allopathic doctors take the signs and symptoms of the patient. When the patient they take good history. If you see a history taken by an Allopathic doctor in a hospital, very nicely they write. But what they write? Allopaths also take signs and symptoms of the patient because that’s the only way to know about the internal derangement of the system. Even they know that. Then what’s the difference between a study pattern of Allopaths and us? They take only the common signs and symptoms of the disease and we consider only the characteristic signs and symptoms of the patient. This is a big difference. That individualizes the sick person from the nosological label to the patient. We individualize the patient and not the disease.
See, as this is the famous quote of Dr. Hahnemann. One patient had come to him asking him tell me what I am suffering from. Tell me what medicines you are giving. What he said? The name of the disease you are suffering is no concern of mine and the medicine I am giving is no concern of yours. So straight forward. Because he knew what he is doing? Likewise there was one patient who had come to Dr. Kent with the expectation of hearing a big name to my disease. What Dr. Kent said. Patient asked, what am I suffering from? He said you are suffering from Nux vomica because for him Nux vomica is a disease; disease state. I don't know what you are suffering from. See, this attitude we should have to become a real homeopath.
See, now with this basic concept what we have learned, we'll go for a case. Because when we know the theory, now we should know how to apply in the practice. The case is of a you can say grave disease. Person has been labeled incurable. He came to us. Not he his relatives they came to us first with the hope that homeopathy can do something for such for this patient. Let us see how we approach to such cases.
See, the case is half case is a paper case because the conditions were not favourable that we could take a video because my assistant had gone to patient’s house. There was lot of nuisance around. They had a dog, a child, everybody was there and there was a lot of nuisance. They had taken a video but the quality of video is not so good that we can learn here exactly. So I have written everything in verbatim. I have taken copies of it. Then follow ups videos are there from his wife and the patient himself. So what we will do, we will just see the case, we'll take a break. I'll distribute the paper case to you and then after the break we will learn the case so that in the break time we can think over the case. Is it okay?
It was a small case, very interesting. A small girl around 8-10 year old. She comes regularly to me for her minor complaints. Cough, cold; all these things. So suddenly one day her mother got her that she is getting severe abdominal pain and she was literally crying with the pain, bending, fever, vomiting. And that girl is very mild; I mean not so aggressive or irritable. Normal playful girl but that she was really in severe pain. She was crying with the pain. I've never seen that girl in such a pain even when she used to get throat infection also; she was not in that panic or agony state.
So when they came to me, I examined her. I gave her SL because I couldn’t diagnose. I've never seen that patient in that state. So for me it was confusing picture. Girl was in a very bad pain. But see normally unless you are 100% sure, I don’t give any medicine. After confirming that this is something not life threatening at this level. I waited. Morning they came to me. Till evening I waited. I said we’ll see if it doesn’t subside in the evening. I inquired everything; any teacher had scolded or normally she get you know such colics when there is a punishment in the school or teacher scolds or there is a fight with the sibling. Nothing was there. She had eaten something outside yesterday? I mean a day before. So in the evening they came back again with severe pain. That girl was looking toxic.
So I said something serious. So… but still I couldn’t find out a remedy. See, if you don’t know the remedy, there is no point in giving in dark. Take this remedy, take that. So I sent them for Sonography. I said let us see at least what is the problem in her. So the Sonography doctor called me and said this girl is having acute septic appendicitis and it could rupture anytime. She needs to be admitted in a hospital and he suggested them that you admit her, get her operated. And listening the operation word that girl started getting more pain. She refused, no, I don’t want to go for surgery. Take me to our doctor; homeopathy doctor. So they came to me. So they have total faith in homeopathy.
See, in such condition also people believe in homeopathy. It is a great thing. So they came to me, I examined her. Tenderness was there. But now we have to prescribe. It is difficult. We can’t wait now. It can rupture any moment.
So I took her symptoms. Her mother said yesterday she started getting pain but she never feels so hot. She was feeling so hot yesterday night and under the full fan also she was sweating profusely with that pain and she was shivering. But she don’t want to take any cover. She refused to take cover and she was sweating and one thing she noticed, this girl is a playful girl but not a like clinging type girl. Yesterday and today this girl is asking somebody should be with her throughout. If I am not there then her younger brother, he sits near her and holds her hand that is also okay for her. Somebody should be there with her. And suddenly she gets up not sleeping but lying down suddenly she gets up hold me, hold me. That way. And there was no question of eating. There was so severe pain. These were the symptoms.
See these are very characteristic symptoms. We have to prescribe on that. So anybody can suggest anything? I gave her Pulsatilla 1M one dose. With this profuse sweating, chilliness with aversion to cover, desire to be carried, hold, company desires. Simple. And next day morning the pain subsided. Fever went down. That tenderness was there for 8 days because it was a septic appendix. After 8 days within a period of 8 days, gradually the tenderness also went away. The girl was fit and fine. Then after around 3 weeks we did the Sonography. The abscess had totally receded. There was no sign of acute appendicitis.
See, acute appendix I think. So many cases I’ve treated but without surgery. If our patient; regular patient somebody comes to us with acute appendix; I don’t think in last 21 years of my practice, I've ever sent any patient for surgery with acute appendicitis. So this is one area where we get sure shot results. In all areas but this is my experience that in acute appendicitis you get fantastic results with one dose. Maybe sometime you need to repeat if the symptoms are recurring or patient is not getting well with one dose. But minimum doses, minimum repetition and this acute appendicitis goes.
